Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the answers to come commonly asked questions
Who is eligible to drive?
Drivers must be at least 18 years of age (for insurance reasons) and hold a valid driver's license.
How much does it cost?
Each track day costs about $230. Track fees and insurance premiums are constantly rising, but we try very hard to give you the most track time and quality instruction for your dollar.
How much track time do you get?
You will get over an hour of track time at the Driver's School, usually 4 sessions of about 20 minutes each.
Can I share a car with someone?
Yes. Two people may use the same car for any given event, but no more than two.
Should I sign up for both days on my first event weekend?
You can't run a Time Trial without approval from an instructor. You can sign up for both days, but there is no guarantee you'll be allowed to run (in which case, you would get a refund for the second day).
What safety equipment do I need?
- A roll bar is required in all convertibles and vehicles competing in Street Prepared and Prepared classes, and recommended in all other vehicles.
- A helmet with a Snell Foundation rating of M2000 (SA2000 recommended) or newer is required for all drivers. Most motorcycle helmets are Snell rated (e.g. M95, M2000). If you are planning on purchasing a helmet to attend these types of events, get a "full face" Snell 2000 rated helmet. The "full face" helmet will protect your chin from hitting the steering wheel, and the 2000 rating will give your helmet the longest possible service life. If you want a helmet that is fire resistant, you are looking for an "SA" rated helmet (e.g. SA95, SA2000).
- If the vehicle is not street legal (i.e. is a purpose-built race car) a full flame retardant driver's suit is required, as well as an "SA" rated helmet.
- Any student's car must have a passenger seat, and the same restraint system as the driver (to accommodate the instructor).
Is there anything I should do to my car to get it ready?
Here are a few things you can do to prep the car:
- Change the oil and oil filter. Use a quality, name-brand oil.
- You'll be using your brakes a lot. Change the brake fluid. Use a brake fluid with a dry boiling point over 500 degrees (such as Valvoline SynPower or Ford Heavy Duty). Cars that call for DOT3 can use DOT4, it's completely compatible with DOT3. Make sure the front brake pads have plenty of pad left on them, and that the rotors are true. If you feel shaking under hard braking, or the brakes squeak, replace the pads and replace the rotors. Make sure you break-in the new pads and rotors before coming to the track.
- Fill up with good gas. Consider going up one grade for better knock protection.
- Check your tires to be sure there is enough tread to survive a weekend of hard cornering, and that there is enough tread to be safe in the rain, since we run rain or shine. Tires with cord showing will get you ejected from the event.
What class is my car in?
Check out the rule book. This will help you determine what class your car is in. Note that if your car is not in Showroom Stock, you may be required to have more safety equipment than the car came with from the factory. Depending on the level of the car's preparation, if this safety equipment is not present, you may fail technical inspection and not be allowed to run. If you have questions, please ask. Safety is our primary concern.
