Who is eligible to drive?

Drivers must be at least 18 years of age (for insurance reasons) and hold a valid driver’s license.

How much does it cost?

As a non-profit we do our best to keep track fees at a minimum. Expenses such as track rental fees and insurance premiums do change from time-to-time, so our event fees can vary. To see the current fees please visit our registration system.

How much track time do you get?

You will get 80-100 minutes of track time at the Driver’s School, usually 4 sessions of about 20-25 minutes each. The second day, solo’d drivers will get two 20-25 minute sessions, 3 uninterrupted laps for time trial, and usually plenty of open track time at the end of the time trials.

Can I share a car with someone?

Yes. Two people may use the same car for any given event, but no more than two. Please register separately.

Should I sign up for both days on my first event weekend?

It depends. If you have prior on-track experience, then you’ve got a good shot at being solo’d for the second day Time Trials. If you have a racing license from SCCA, NASA, AER, etc, almost certainly you’re good to go.

If you’ve never been to a track before, it’s fine to sign up for Day 1 of the event. Your Instructor will talk to you about what you need to accomplish to be solo’d for Day 2 and the Time Trials, and you can register at the end of Day 1 with no hassle.

What safety equipment do I need?

  • Drivers and passengers must wear a Snell Foundation M or SA approved safety helmet at all times while on the course. A M2015 or SA2015 or newer approval is required.
  • All student-driven cars must have a passenger seat, and the same restraint system as the driver (to accommodate the instructor). If you have 3-point belts on both sides, you’re good to go. If you have harnesses on your side, you MUST have harnesses for the Instructor on his side.
  • If the vehicle is not street legal (i.e. is a purpose-built race car) a minimum single-layer flame retardant driver’s suit, gloves and shoes are required, as well as an “SA” rated helmet. “M” helmets are not allowed in full-race cars.
  • A roll bar is required in all convertibles and any vehicles competing in Super classes, or a car competing in a Touring class that has amassed 31+ modification points. How do you know? Check out the Classing Tool here.

Is there anything I should do to my car to get it ready?

Here are a few things you can do to prep the car:

  • Change the oil and oil filter. Use a quality, name-brand oil.
  • You’ll be using your brakes a lot. Make sure the front brake pads have plenty of pad left on them, and that the rotors are true. If you feel shaking under hard braking, or the brakes squeak, replace the pads and/or rotors.
  • Fill up with good gas. Consider going up one grade for better knock protection.
  • Check your tires to be sure there is enough tread to survive a weekend of hard cornering, and that there is enough tread to be safe in the rain, since we run rain or shine. Tires with cord showing aren’t going to work – so save yourself the emergency run to the tire store!
