Re: Anyone going to the Rolex 24 this year?

Seems like since NASCAR bought the rights to IMSA racing, they intend to make it "yellow flag racing" like the stock cars. Maybe it's just Daytona, but every yellow lasted for at least 20 minutes while they cleaned up and then let the different classes pit. If it's the same at Sebring, I'm giving u...

Re: don't laugh, this is not a joke

When is this "off season" that you speak of? Since Thanksgiving, I've worked at Road Atlanta, Circuit of the Americas, Daytona, and didn't go to Sebring last weekend only because I was already at Daytona. Between now and the first COM event, I am also going back to Daytona, back to CotA, Barbe...

Re: 2013 Car Classes

Statements like these before we even hit the track and complete a single TT for 2013 are uncalled for. As mentioned earlier tire choice will weigh heavily on the results, and Mick needs to drop down to a RA1 to stay in the T70 class. In my opinion I think you ought to get used to it, the reason the...

Re: Rules 2013 - Version 1.2 and Voting!

I did speak out in favor of the Super reclassification at the time, and I know that my voice was heard at least by the people proposing the change, as my single biggest concern with the Super propsal was addressed. As far as I could tell there were 3-4 of the P crowd against it, but I was under the ...

Re: Rules 2013 - Version 1.2 and Voting!

Being in PB, I'm dissapointed that the Super class structure change to power:weight didn't get changed. In PB, I now have to compete with Steve Millen's Pikes Peak overall winning Celica and Tundra from the 90's and their 2.2L 4-cyl turbo engines that in IMSA GTP trim made 1200+ HP. Anyone have $750...

Re: 2012 F1 Circuit of the Americas Race

It looks like a pretty decent track, though there are others between here and there that I'd rather drive first that I haven't driven yet. I'll have a better idea of the facilities and track when I go there in 3 weeks, but it looks a lot better than most of the other Tilke tracks, and has a lot of v...

Re: New Rules - Tech, Policing, and Scrutineers

Brendan, given the level of prep on your car I think you would be far best off competing in the Super classes, Super C as a guess. The way the rules are proposed there is little incentive for race cars to run in the touring classes since the points accumulation forces them out of their competitive ...

Re: New Rules - Tech, Policing, and Scrutineers

Just for the record, I don't think I've seen a car outside of SS that runs with COM that was truly prepped to the limit of the class rules, even when scaled to the technology of the day. Will's Miata in SPC is probably the closest, with honorable mention to the late 90's SPA battle between Grove Mar...

Instructor group Sunday morning. It was too dry for wets (what I was on) and too wet for dries. Note all teh other cars out there with me at this time:

Re: Rules for 2013

To me it sounds as if we ought to try a figure a way for underpowered race cars to be classed with the high Ts. The problems with doing this are at Watkins Glen and Mosport. I crunched some numbers, and though a heavily modified low power car may be competitive with a high powered car (think SPC vs...

Re: Rules for 2013

Now, separate issue - $$$. There will certainly be exceptions as well as some "transition costs" depending on how folks have already prepped their cars for current rules. However, on the whole, I expect the Touring classes to be significantly cheaper than running in existing SP, ST, and even SS cla...

Re: Rules for 2013

I agree there seems tpo be a large gap for the low end of the super class. Super C up to 10:1 lbs/hp? I'd say the max power to weight ratio for super C would be even lower than 10:1...I was thinking more like 15:1 I just did a run through on a NB Miata in typical SCCA ITS trim (53 mod points), with...

Re: Rules for 2013

Is there a provision to run a car in a higher class than what it's allowed for? Example: Suppose someone is running for a season long championship in T80, running a wider than stock RA-1's on wide lightweight wheels. It rains for a time trial, and they end up having to run on the street tires with a...

Re: Rules for 2013

Again sounding political, I see the new plan as being more inclusive to all, and a way to allow the much more diverse variety of track-capable cars that can be had now to find a competitive place to play vs. the small selection of "sports cars" running in the 60, 70s that formed the original basis ...

Re: Rules for 2013

Class by actual lap times... Trust me, this is not a good idea. The primary issues: 1. How do you classify a new car? 2. What track do you base the lap times at? (SCCA currently has a major issue with this, as the Runoffs are at an oddball track that very heavily favors power compared to mo...
