Re: Tow vehicle suggestions

My first choice would be a used pickup truck and a used enclosed trailer that can carry a 19 foot long 4200 lb car (my largest heaviest car). A constrution company owner told me to get a GMC 2500 with votec engine and Allison tranny. My second choice would be something similar but with a used enclos...

Re: Tow vehicle suggestions

I think that the main reason why I would consider a van is because I could sleep in it (you could turn it into a pretty nice camper). On the other hand, you make a very good point about visibility. I could camp in the car trailer with the car but then I might be kept awake by some fumes. Has anyone ...

Re: Tow vehicle suggestions

thanks for the tip regarding a van. I had actually thought that getting a cargo van would work because you could turn it into a camper. Would a real cargo van be heavy duty enough to pull a large one car cargo van? (v nose)?

Re: Tow vehicle suggestions

I too am thinking about tow vehicle. My current thinking is a 2 wheel drive pickup. Someone told me that 4wd is actually worse for towing. Is that true? 2wd would be cheaper to maintain. It woudl have to be something cheapish and used (1990's?). regarding trailer: I am going to consider a covered tr...

I will be at the Concord Day's Inn. I learned my lesson. I will reserve in advance in the future.

Re: Monticello in 2012?

I would go for two WGI especially if one of them can be directly after the vintage event (like this year).
I can't wait to try relay. This year I had broken axle so I could not participate. :(

Re: finally caved

ah ha. Well I would not say that I caved between events (there is not enough time for me to get this car ready for the next event). Autocross by end of Oct perhaps, but it will not see the track until next season.

Re: finally caved

Nate, thanks for the comments. However, I am sure that I will not be happy keeping the car stock. I will aim for ST.
I just read the rules and it was not clear to me if you can have coilovers in ST. Is that acceptible?

thanks,

Re: finally caved

Mark, Thanks for the excellent discertation. This is exactly the type of into that I am looking for. There is a chance that I can drive the car as is (with squishy suspension and no safety changes) for the last autocross this fall but after that I will start "fixing" it (winter project which is seco...

Re: finally caved

should I remove the AC (will it cool better without that radiator blocking some wind)?
I was thinking that if the AC works well I should wait until it stops working before removing it. I don't know if it works (was not a factor in choosing the car).
