Re: Thompson Turn 6

The later you apex 6 the more you bring "the wall" into play. The pavement grip changes (new vs old) and many don't think about that important fact. Plus the loss of camber past the apex. It's arguably the most "technical" turn at Thompson. Mick brings up a good point about teaching the do's and don...

Re: Federal Tires

If you advertise your tire to be a 40 wear tire then it should compare to other 40 wear tires, regardless of the application or price. I was looking for a better tire. Period. The Federal 201s do not compare in level of grip to Hoosiers from what I have personally found out. Apples to apples. I also ...

Re: Federal Tires

"You are comparing tires that are literally half the price to arguably the best tire out there...what did you expect?" I compared a 40 wear tire to a 40 wear tire. Price has nothing to do with it. Apples to apples, only in this case it was apples to road apples. Partially corded A7s beat the sticker ...

Re: Federal Tires

I tried a set of Federal 201 soft compound sticker tires (205/50/15) on the front of the Atom at the track (Whiskey Hill) yesterday. (manufacture date 3/2020) Conclusion: They are 4-6 seconds slower than the same size A7 tire. They slid controllably, but they key word is SLID . More pressure, less p...

Re: First Call to the Grid

Had a wonderful say at Palmer yesterday. The track surface could not be better. Once again I have my sanity saved. Thanks for this incredible playground! Most Massachusetts residence have no idea what an incredible treasure now exists right here. If you had built this track down south they would have...

Re: Tire rack

Mick..I use these barrel dollys. They are ideal for me and inexpensive...about 85$ shipped for a 4 pack. Well constructed and easily handle as many tires as you dare to stack. A 23" diameter tire drops easily into the ring...and bigger ones rest on the ring. I didn't install the inner bolts on the c...

Re: Palmer Motorsports Open Track May 29th

Yea I know...BUT I do set up my car differently for each direction. It may be the same track but to get the best Treadwear and grip, I set the car up differently. It really has made a difference in how many quality laps I can get out of a set of tyres.

Re: Palmer Motorsports Open Track May 29th

Which direction will they be running on the 29th? Not that it really matters as I LOVE either direction. But..I do set up my car differently depending on CW or CCW.

Re: 2020 TT Season

I'm ready. Whatever it takes to get back on track. Lead/follow works well when there is no traffic..but is sketchy with beginners, especially if they have bad control habits and you can't hit them with the ruler. Lead/follow with good class instructions should work if everyone is on the same page. P...

Re: Do it all brake pads (Miata content)

New rotors are the best way to go as they do heat check/crack and fatigue like all other components. However if I’m in between discard cycles and want to try a new compound, I have bead blasted my rotors.Works great to get that winter rust off too...

Re: Do it all brake pads (Miata content)

Todays street pads are pretty amazing as brake compounds have come a looong way. A good set of ceramic pads have pretty nice bite and hold up well, even when pushed hard. The more seat time you get,the less you will use your brakes anyways.. If you end up in the rain,a street pad has much bet...
