Hi Mick,

I agree. This post was from 2017. The rule passed and it was generic for all cars.

Rule Change #14: Allow fix backed racing seats with factory belts

Rulebook Section: IV. 6. b. ii. Old Rule: All cars are factory- equipped with “DOT” (FMVSS 209) approved 3-point safety belts. These belts are considered the minimum protection for high performance driving. Factory belts may only be used with the stock seats. Replacement of the factory seats with an...

Rule Change #13: Factory hard-tops for rollover protection

Old Rule: All convertible and open cars regardless of class. Convertibles may not use removable hardtops as a substitute for roll bars Proposed New Rule: Would like to request a change that factory hardtops are ok to use. At least for HPDE events. For example, my sister has a MR2 Spyder with a facto...

Rule Change #12: Competition Paperwork Requirements

Proposed New Rule: Situation: A "new" member joins COM for a singular event and only runs that single event. (Clearly races with other organizations and has experience.) Has not had car weighed or provided dyno sheet etc. Their race placement should not be scored to affect the current competitors in...

Rule Change #11: Apply credit points to non-computer assist vehicles

It seems to me that as the rules stand there not enough compensation/penalties in regards to all the computer aids/nannies/HP of today’s regular automobiles, never mind the high performance version almost race factory cars with multiple levels of driving aids, making a low to mid-level driver look a...

Rule Change #10: Create an underweight penalty

Any amount underweight = 0.5 second penalty
Every 1% underweight = additional 1 second penalty

Example: A 3000 lb. car weighing in at 2997 lb. would incur a 0.5 second + 0.1 second = 0.6 second penalty
3000 lb. car weighing in at 2970 lb. would incur 0.5 second + 1 second = 1.5 second penalty

Rule Change #9A, B, and C: Super Class Updates

While there has been a lot of focus on the Touring Classes, which typically host most the majority of competitors, the Super Classes have gone largely untouched since they launched for the 2014 season. Now 5 years old, there are a few changes that could improve these classes: - Adjust Power-to-Weigh...

Rule Change #7: Interior Requirements in Touring Classes

The entire point of developing the Touring Class system was to create an inclusive classing system so that the widest array of vehicles may compete in a controlled system by which relative performance advantages of different platforms are accounted for, and thus driver skill is the deciding factor i...

Rule Change #6: Touring Class Vehicle Base Class Adjustments, 2015+ Ford Mustang GT (w/IRS)

I suspect the 2015+ Mustang could overpower the competition if built to the limit of a class and driven well. The previous (non-IRS) model has a Subjective Performance Assessment of +0.0 (aka “Mustang penalty”), but the jump with the newer models is revolutionary. I believe the current assessment of...

Rule Change #5: Touring Class Vehicle Base Class Adjustments, BMW e90/92/93 3series non-M

Touring Class vehicles receive a Showroom Assessment, aka “base classing”, based on the vehicle’s power-to-weight ratio (using factory-advertised horsepower, torque, and curb weight specs). In addition, a subjective Performance Adjustment Factor is included. This adjustment factor compensates for an...

Rule Change #3: Touring Class Tire Compound Adjustments, R7 & A7

Currently, the Hoosier R7 is at 6 points, the SM7 is at 5 points, and the A7 is at 10 points. Proposal 3: Change the R7 to 7 points and the A7 to 9 points Time differences on same track on same day twice this year (LCMT and NHMS) where I ran SM7 and R7 (both used fairly equally). R7 is 1.5 seconds ...
