New Hampshire Motor Speedway

New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) is the "home track" for COMSCC.

New Hampshire International Speedway (NHIS) was renamed to New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) in 2008.

The facility is located in Loudon, New Hampshire, less than an hour north of the New Hampshire/Massachusetts border.

NASCAR events are held each year, NHMS also features a tight, challenging 1.6 mile multi-configuration road course. This course combines some of the oval's wide banked surface with narrower sections including tight esses, two relatively fast sweepers, several dramatic changes in elevation, and a steeply banked, down-and-up hairpin turn called "the bowl". At NHMS, you never stop turning!

NHMS's packed schedule includes a NASCAR Winston Cup race, two NASCAR Busch Grand National North races, several SCCA and vintage events, frequent club events hosted by organizations like COMSCC, Northeast Replica Challenge, and BMW Car Club of America, and numerous motorcycle and kart races.

The NASCAR races are all run on the oval. The SCCA, vintage, and club events use the road course, as do the kart and motorcycle racers.

NHMS also holds several open track sessions throughout the year, typically using the North Chicane/South Oval configuration. These sessions are open to COMSCC members for a reasonable fee.

NHMS has an official Web site at http://www.nhms.com.

Track Configurations

The old Bryar Motorsports Park occupied the site until it was razed by the current owners, Bill and Bob Baer, to make way for the construction of the present major speedway and its associated road course in the early 90's. The new construction retained none of the old pavement, although the outfield section of the current road course roughly follows part of the old circuit but in reverse direction.

The map shows the current road course and oval. Note that while there are actually four possible configurations for the road course, COMSCC typically uses North Chicane and South Chicane:

  • North Chicane and South Chicane
  • North Chicane and South Oval
  • North Oval and South Chicane
  • North Oval and South Oval

Directions

  • Get on Interstate 93 toward Concord, NH.
  • Take Exit 15E to Interstate 393 East.
  • Take 393 East to Exit 3 (NH Route 106).
  • At the light at the end of the off ramp turn left onto 106 North.
  • The track is 9 miles up Route 106, on your right.

Helpful Hints

  • There are two well-stocked fuel/convenience stores about 1 mile south of the track on Route 106.
  • Garages are available for rent. Contact the track for details.
  • The inner paddock is completely paved. Unlike many tracks, you need never leave asphalt from the moment you enter NHMS.
  • Make sure your brakes and brake lines are in good shape - Turn 3 is utterly unforgiving of brake failure.
  • Racing gas is available. Call the track for flavors and prices.
  • There are used oil and antifreeze collection tanks in the paddock.
  • The media center is in the building between the restaurant and the front straight - this is where the second classroom session is. Scout it out or ask someone to point it out to you before class starts.
  • There is an air conditioned restaurant (The Checkered Flag) which serves all sorts of usual track food.
  • Tech Inspection is done on the Grid, just inside of Pit Lane.
  • You can camp in the infield or behind the buildings outside the tunnel for no additional charge on Friday and Saturday night.
  • The bathrooms are very clean. The showers are hot and there are plenty of them.
