Le Circuit Mont Tremblant

Built in 1964, Le Circuit Mont Tremblant is an exciting, high speed road course located near St. Jovite, Quebec, Canada, about 1 hour northwest of Montreal.

The 15-turn "long course" is 2.65 miles in length and is characterized by dramatic elevation changes and fast, sweeping corners. Several of these corners crest blind brows, resulting in intimidating blind-apex high speed turns that require the driver to commit to the corner well before the apex is visible. As a driver's circuit, Mont Tremblant ranks among the very best of all North American road courses.

Le Circuit was completely rebuilt during 2000-2001. The new track follows the layout of the old course but is wider and smoother, with large runoff areas, FIA-style curbs, and two chicanes. Banking has been removed from some corners. The track surface has been widened from 28 feet to 36 feet, and the new pit straight is 42 feet wide.

In its early years, Le Circuit hosted two Formula 1 Grands Prix, four USAC races (all won by Mario Andretti) and several Can-Am, Formula Atlantic, and Trans Am races, including the first Can-Am race ever, in 1966.

Mont Tremblant now has a flashy official Web site at http://www.lecircuit.com/.

Track Configurations

With the rebuild a second crossover section was added in the narrow "waist" of the long course. There are now three possible configurations. The traditional long course remains, but can be reconfigured into two independent short courses each comprised of part of the long course plus a short crossover section.

There are also two chicanes which can be optionally used to slow high-speed cars such as ALMS and Grand Am sports racing cars. One chicane is at the top of the hill in Turn 2, and the second is in Turn 6.

The 1.5 mile North Loop is the same as the old short course, and includes the main straight and Turns 1 through 5, the old crossover between 6 and 10, and up through 14. The South Loop runs from the new crossover at the new Turn 6 chicane through Turns 7 through 9 and back to the new crossover.

It appears that events can be conducted on both the North Loop and South Loop simultaneously. Access to the South Loop would be through the Main (spectator) Entrance.

COMSCC typically runs the long course, without the chicanes.

Helpful Hints

  • It is advisable to obtain an insurance card from your insurance company covering your auto while in Canada. Also, you should have a complete listing of all equipment being brought into the country (parts, tools, tires, etc).
  • Do not bring a radar detector into Canada, as they are illegal and will be confiscated if found.
  • Open pipes are not allowed at this track. Sound limits are enforced by the track management and are subjective. Bring the muffler setup you use at NHIS!
  • There is no leaded gas in Canada. Bring your own racing gas, but only enough for the event.
